Direct Messages

Direct messages are one-on-one conversations that support multiple message types, message management, and conversation management.

Start a Direct Chat

• Tap a person’s card in Contacts and select “Send Message” to start a direct chat
• Find a contact via Global Search and tap to start chatting directly
• In a group chat, tap a member’s card and select “Send Message” to start a direct chat
• When creating a group chat from the “+” menu, you can also select a single person

You can also tap a person’s contact card in Contacts and select “Send Message” to start a direct message.

Direct Message Features

Calls and Online Status

• If visibility settings allow the person’s phone number to be visible, a dial icon appears in the top-right corner of the conversation. Tap to call them
• Administrators can enable “Online Status” to show whether the person is online on mobile, Pad, or desktop

Signature Display

The person’s signature is displayed in the following scenarios:

• When entering a direct message with them for the first time
• When re-entering the direct message after more than 12 hours since the last message

You can disable signature display in direct messages from the signature settings page.

Chat History Search

Chat history is stored in the cloud. Within a direct message, you can search visible historical messages:

• Filter by message type (images and videos, files, links and articles, etc.)
• Filter by sender and time
• Search by keyword

Search results are tappable. Tapping opens the conversation and locates the message.

Direct Message Settings

Open a direct message, tap the settings entry in the top-right corner to access:

• Create Group: Add other users to quickly create a group with the current user and the other person
• Pinned Messages: View pinned messages in this direct message, unpin as needed
• Search Messages: Search historical messages in this direct message
• Pin Conversation: Pin the conversation to the top of the message list
• Do Not Disturb: Messages are received but without notifications (except for mentions and priority keywords)
• Clear Messages: Clears messages on all your devices. Cannot be undone (only affects your view; the other person’s history is unaffected)

Pinned Messages

You can pin messages in a direct message. Pinned messages are displayed at the top of the chat:

• Up to 5 pinned messages simultaneously
• Tap a pinned message to jump to the original message
• Both parties can pin and unpin messages
• View all pinned messages in chat settings

To unpin: long-press / right-click the pinned message and select “Unpin”, or unpin from the pinned messages list in chat settings.
